Following another successful toss, Broxbourne elected to bat. Unfortunately, following the loss of two early wickets it was over to Sargent and Ridley to build a total for the badgers. The two lads did just that, batting with some great rhythm the Broxbourne innings would soon take off. Sargent making a well made 46 following up his runs from the week prior. However, the man of the hour... as is often the case was the Broxbourne number 4 and the golden badger... Ridley who racked up a superb 126 before getting bored. He was supported by some brilliant middle order batting from Niall Robinson 38 which pushing the Broxbourne total to a competitive 254.
The second innings could not have started any better for Broxbourne with two quick wickets to remove both the opening bat and number 3 in quick succession which appeared to set the tone. However, the St Albans skipper and Bancroft decided this would not be the case and proceeded to put on a superb stand of 156 for the 3rd wicket which well and truly put the badgers on the back foot. However, as is the way with this funny old game of ours... two quick wickets fell and the badgers soon had two fresh faced individuals at the crease.
There was however, another brief stand from St Albans to try and thwart the Broxbourne boys once again... however with some superb perseverance and excellent bowling from Benji and Willis saw the badgers back in it once again with 5 overs remaining. Queue the epitome of headloss from the St Albans lower order in the penultimate over which saw them needing 18 from the last two with 5 wickets in hand... to losing 4 wickets in the penultimate over and only managing to score 2 runs. This was a combination of high class bowling by Benji Richardson and superb standards in the field from Broxbourne... despite the pits of an outfield!!
So it was only fitting that the final wicket would come via another run out and said funny old game came back to save the badgers. As a team, the levels never dropped when it mattered most and plenty of learnings can be taken into next week! Once again... Up The Badgers!
