Goff 65* - C.Willis 3/39, Sausage 3/35, Charv 3-47

With weather lurking, Pegg duly lost another important toss in the home match v Stevenage 2’s. Stevenage fresh from a winning streak were confident and selected to bowl, knowing that there would be reduced overs and it would be a tougher proposition to set a large total.

Broxbourne opened with the crippled Plumb and the flamboyant and proud Sivakumar – Stevenage openers bowled tightly and unwilling to take the risk, Broxbourne started off at a slow rate, however once in, both openers looked to push on with the impressive Dr Siv falling for 41. Plumb was joined to the crease by Willis who looked to take the game on and despite losing 2 quick wickets of the set batsman before the rain arrived, Broxbourne had started to set a foundation for the more explosive batsman to build upon. The Stevenage umpire was unwilling to restart the game until every last drop of rain had subsided, at one point there was a Year 7 Chemistry style test completed to show that there was 1 drop of rain per 30 seconds, the umpire sat resolutely giving Stevenage the big upper hand to a reduced 40 overs per side match. Needless to say, new batsman Goff & Muz attacked from the restart and despite Muz’s Achilles falling to pieces, Goff hit his first Badger half century finishing unbeaten on 65* and a fair score of 221/4 was posted.

Stevenage looked downbeat at the interval but was lifted by their 3rd X1 turning up to send a drone in to the sky for a little bit of footage. In the second innings they would have captured plenty of playing and missing, over half of the fielding side being injured and a comfortable Badger victory. Willis, Sausage and Charv all picked up 3 wickets and despite a couple of big blows by the giant man with a £700 bat and midget pads, Stevenage were always behind the game and ended their 40 overs on 192/9.

We stay in 3rd place, with a trip to Northampton Exiles on the 15th on what will be another crucial toss.
